We are pleased to announce that we have made a donation to the activities of the international healthcare NGO Japan Heart, a specified nonprofit corporation.

Japan Heart, a specified nonprofit corporation, was established in 2004 with the philosophy of delivering medical care to places where it is not available, and is an international medical NGO that works to realize a society where all people, regardless of country, region, race, politics, religion or circumstances, can receive medical care equally and “feel good about being born”.

As we have an overseas subsidiary in Myanmar and also conduct business there, we supported the “Myanmar Pediatric Advanced Medical Support Project” with a donation.

We will continue to support activities that lead to the creation of social contribution value and the improvement of business value, based on our purpose of “creating a prosperous and secure future by building the infrastructure that supports people’s lives”.

In terms of medical care, Myanmar is said to be about 30 years behind Japan. There is a reality that lives that could be saved in Japan cannot be saved in this country.
In order to improve this reality, and to save as many children as possible who will shape the future of their country, Japan Heart has been sending specialists in various fields of pediatric medicine from Japan to a pediatric hospital in Myanmar since 2015, and has been focusing on activities to support pediatric medicine, such as pediatric cancer and pediatric heart disease, and on passing on specialist skills. With the efforts of Japanese medical professionals, who have advanced expertise even on a global scale, local medical professionals were also beginning to acquire specialized skills. However, just as they were finally beginning to be able to save lives that had previously been impossible to save, the situation changed completely with the coup d’état, and the pediatric medical system collapsed in an instant.
Despite the efforts of the few remaining pediatric medical professionals in Myanmar, who are working day and night, many children and their families are still waiting for treatment with anxiety. In addition to the shortage of medical institutions and medical personnel who can provide treatment, there is also a shortage of medical supplies provided to hospitals by the government. There is a shortage of medical supplies necessary for optimal treatment, and local medical personnel are unable to provide adequate treatment.
To help as many children as possible who are waiting for treatment in difficult circumstances, we will continue to provide medical support to Myanmar by working on the following projects.

1)Myanmar Pediatric Heart Disease Project
Japanese pediatric cardiologists will be assigned to the only hospital in Myanmar that can treat children with heart disease, where they will insert special catheters into the heart through the large blood vessels in the thighs to close holes in the heart that are present from birth or to widen narrowed blood vessels.
2)Myanmar Cleft Lip and Palate Project
Cleft lip and palate is a condition in which there is a cleft in the lip or upper jaw from birth. Since 2019, treatment techniques have been taught to local medical staff, and teams have been formed with local oral surgeons trained there, who then travel to areas with poor access to medical care to perform surgeries.
3)Myanmar Pediatric Surgery Project
Japanese pediatric surgeons will be assigned to two pediatric hospitals in Myanmar that specialize in pediatric surgery, where they will perform surgeries for pediatric cancer and other serious illnesses.
